Volunteer

The organizations of Nature Cowichan depend on volunteers for conservation activities, managing membership records, publicity, public events, newsletters, fundraising and for roles on our boards.  We also have the following specific opportunities:

The Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society hosts regular volunteer events on both weekdays and weekends. Volunteering with us provides opportunities for community members to learn about the impacts of climate change and urbanization on the S’amunu/Somenos Watershed while participating in habitat restoration, water quality and wildlife monitoring, invasive removal and much more. If you’re interested in volunteering with us, becoming a member, donating or have any questions please visit us at www.somenosmarsh.com, email us at info@somenosmarsh.com or give us a call at (250) 732-0462.

Cowichan Estuary Nature Centre volunteers work 2-hour shifts for weekend public openings or assist with school groups visiting the Nature Centre in Cowichan Bay.  Training is provided. Other volunteers may help with habitat restoration, camps, display creation, maintenance, special events, and other fun and useful tasks.  Society directors are valued volunteers.  For more information or to sign up visit cowichanestuary.ca

The Cowichan Valley Naturalists learn about nature, enjoy events, hikes and other outings with expert naturalists, are part of a group advocating for nature and have opportunities to join Citizen Science and conservation projects.  If you would like to join please fill out the Membership Form on the Home page of this website and submit with your dues as indicated on the bottom of the form.    If you have questions please email cvns@naturecowichan.net

The Cowichan Land Trust leads stream and wetland stewardship projects, including cleanups, invasive plant removal, planting shrubs and trees,  streamkeepers, rescuing western toads, transplanting eelgrass, and marking storm drains.  Contact:  250-746-6141 or info@cowichanlandtrust.ca
